Poetry Workshop - March 12, 2022
Wind in Our Branches: Writing Ekphratic Poetry on the Theme of Trees

Free Admission
An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Please join Utah Poet Laureate, Paisley Rekdal, as she engages our thoughts, imaginations, and motions in a workshop focused on writing poetry on the theme of trees. Participants will be encouraged to respond to artworks presented within the Tree Stories: A Breath of Fresh Air exhibit, or to seek inspiration from the natural areas along the Jordan River just beyond the gallery

Join us for Utah Shakespeare Festival’s educational touring production of Much Ado about Nothing, a play by William Shakespeare first performed in 1612.

ARTrageous Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead

Gather your students and celebrate Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead with us! We have three options available for teachers looking to incorporate this celebration into their classroom:

Noemi Hernandez-Balcazar grew up in Mexico City where she developed a lifelong love for art and celebrations, such as Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. Now an artist and educator in Salt Lake City, she shares her insights into this iconic Mexican celebration. Her first-hand knowledge provides a pathway to appreciating art, food, folklore, music, history, and Mexican cultural values.

ARTrageous In-Person - Nov. 1-2, 2021
Bring your students to the Día de los Muertos exhibits at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center Nov. 1-2, 2021. This complimentary program includes a gallery tour and discussion, short film with footage from celebrations in Mexico, and traditional paper flower making session with a local artist.

Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Celebration at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center
West Valley Arts presents Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The event features traditional Mexican dance & musical  performances, traditional food, a beer garden, and a variety of complimentary hands-on activities for the whole family. Plus a chance to win prizes in our Catrina/Catrin dress-up contest!
