AMENDMENT XIX

On August 18, 1920, Tennessee was the last of the necessary 36 ratifying states to secure the 19th Amendment's adoption.
The amendment was first introduced to Congress in 1878, and after several other attempts was passed by the
​House of Representatives in May 1919, followed by the Senate in June 1919. 
"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged
​by the United States or by any State on account of sex."
