AMENDMENT XIX
On August 18, 1920, Tennessee was the last of the necessary 36 ratifying states to secure the 19th Amendment's adoption.
The amendment was first introduced to Congress in 1878, and after several other attempts was passed by the
House of Representatives in May 1919, followed by the Senate in June 1919.
