This exhibit celebrates the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, and how its construction and very existence created an undeniable, permanent connection between the American and Chinese peoples. The historic and contemporary photos at the heart of the exhibit tell the story of how the more than 10,000 men – mostly from Guangdong province – crossed an ocean to help build one of the “Seven Wonders of the Industrial Age,” a railroad that would be the economic engine that drove the United States to world prominence.
