What is West Valley Arts?

It is gallery exhibits, artist talks, workshops, and performances that bring local, regional, national, and international visual artists, curators, performers, musicians, poets, actors, thinkers, and doers to West Valley.

It is school children being given the opportunity to try their hands at painting, dance, music, acting, and sculpting for the very first time.

It is integral to West Valley's place as the most diverse city in the state, and helping to draw visitors from across the city, county, and state to events like the Wasatch International Food Festival, Day of the Dead Celebration, and two concert series to share in that diversity.

It is world class theatre at the Harman Theatre, where shows are produced using local professional talent as well as the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Since 2004, West Valley Arts has supported West Valley's rich history of public art, festivals, concerts, cultural programming, and now top-tier theatre.  Our exhibits, concerts, festivals, and theatre experiences draw more than 750,000 people each year to a community that supports and understands that the arts are what make West Valley a great place to live.

West Valley Arts is a 501(c)(3) organization that creates opportunities to learn, experience, and celebrate art, culture, and the community.  Your tax-deductible donations support this important mission.

How We Got Here

In 2003, the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (UCCC) was created to provide a place where people from all walks of life can come together on the Valley’s West side, to share ideas; inspire, nurture, and learn from one another; enjoy arts and cultural experiences; concerts and performing arts. It is also a place for businesses, individuals and other groups to gather for conferences, seminars, ceremonies, and other special events.  Last year, public arts and cultural programs at the Center served nearly 56,000 patrons.

In 2012, the Utah Cultural Celebration Center Foundation was created to support the work of the West Valley City Division of Arts and Culture through programming that included art exhibits, concerts, and public education programs that were traditionally housed at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.

In 2017, after 20 years at Harman Hall, Hale Centre Theatre left West Valley for a new building.   In 2019, two years after the close of Hale Centre Theatre, West Valley City decided to develop and implement a plan for reintegrating this beautiful facility into the community. With a long history of community theater programming at the UCCC, West Valley City decided to launch a professional theater program at Harman Theatre.

In 2019, the board of directors made the decision to change the name of the Utah Cultural Celebration Center Foundation to the West Valley Arts and Cultural Foundation or West Valley Arts.  For many years, the Utah Cultural Celebration Center has functioned as the primary facility to the Division of Arts and Culture providing events, arts programming, and arts educational opportunities for West Valley citizens and the greater Wasatch Front.   Recently, we have grown to include Harman Theatre, and we have embarked on an exciting city-wide public arts program. The decision to change our name reflects our growth as an organization, desire to be more inclusive of our community, and better demonstrate our mission and purpose.
