FAQs - 2021 Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos Celebration
West Valley Art’s Day of the Dead Celebration is continuing with plans to host the event on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021. Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, we will require face masks for all guests at this year’s event. Some of the changes this year include:
These guidelines are subject to change and will be updated as needed.
Masks / Face Covering Requirements:All attendees over age 4 will be required to wear an approved face mask or covering at all times while attending the Day of the Dead Celebration, except while actively eating or drinking. This policy applies to all attendees, including exhibitors, guests, artists and staff. All face coverings must completely cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides of face without gaps. If you do not have a mask, or the correct type of mask, we will have masks available for purchase. Guests who do not adhere to our mask rules will be required to leave the event without a refund. We understand that these requirements may not work for everyone. If you would like to request a refund due to these requirements, please contact the ticket office (801) 965-5140 during regular business hours, Wednesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
What is timed entry?This year we are offering timed ticketing. Timed tickets allow you to purchase tickets online for entry to Dia de los Muertos. Time slots are made available every 30 minutes. When purchasing your tickets online, you can select a time slot that is not sold out. We are selling a limited amount of slots to limit capacity and provide a better experience for our guests.
Can I buy tickets in person?We will have day-of tickets available on-site at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. However, we highly encourage you to purchase tickets in advance due to availability. Walk ups are subject to capacity limits and will have to wait outside until capacity allows.
Do you allow re-rentry?Yes, however you will have stand in the walk-ups line and wait until building capacity allows.
Do I have to wait in line if it's raining/snowing/windy/sunny?Yes, part of our lines are outside. Please plan for inclement weather. We have
had sunny days the past few years! Are all spaces in the building open?The lower Plaza level will be temporarily closed on Oct. 30, we encourage you to visit the Plaza Gallery Mon-Thurs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Can kids go?Yes, all minors must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian over 18.
Can I dress up for Día de los Muertos?Yes, we encourage guests to dress up! However, this is NOT Halloween. Please leave your Halloween costumes at home. If you do dress up, consider participating in our annual Catrina / El Catrin contest!
What if I don't speak Spanish?Our celebration is a bilingual event and we have our program in English and Spanish. Everyone is invited to experience this day celebrating Mexican culture!
Do you have a lost and found?Yes, please stop at the West Valley Arts booth during the event or contact the UCCC at (801) 965-5100 afterwards and let us know what you lost.
Can we take pictures and video?Yes, personal photos and videos are allowed. For permission to take professional video/photography, please email arts@wvc-ut.gov
Where can I eat?We have food and drinks available for sale in the UCCC. Alcohol is available for purchase for those over 21 years of age with a valid ID. No outside food or beverages allowed. No food or drinks allowed in the Celebration Gallery.
