Bullfrog Splendor
"We have been to Bullfrog Bay at Lake Powell over 100 times and we have a contest to see who can see the water first as we approach on SR 276. We start looking just past Ticaboo Lodge. This is the site standing above the parking lot waiting to launch the boat."

Playing in the River
"A friend and I had gone painting one day and I had just started painting the river when a family came to picnic there. Then the girls and the family dog started playing in the river. What a bonus for me! I wiped off what I had started and painted them."

Cool Summer Morning at the GSL - Honorable Mention
"I went to the Great Salt Lake at Saltair early on a July morning in 2019 to try to paint before it got too hot. I was in the shadow of the Saltair building but had to move closer and closer to it as the sun rose and the shadow became smaller. The atmospheric haze on the lake made the distant island look like a mirage. I loved the way the colors made subtle shifts through blues to almost purples, complemented by the light golden tones in the sand. It was one of those magical painting experiences that I would love to repeat."

Algae Bloom Utah Lake
"I was struck by this image of a man monitoring the algal bloom on Utah Lake from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality. While the man is looking down on his subject, I imagined a link between the pollution on the lake and the turmoil in the sky, so I painted the natural elements with a sickly green and yellow pall while the man is the only element with sky-blue hues as a statement of the state of our current environment."
